Gardens that Grow Your Peace
Wander mindfully through the onsite gardens where time feels slow and simple beauty blooms.
No two visits through Sycamore’s gardens are ever the same. Experience the seasons through the unique flowers and fauna growing throughout the property.
Stop for a scenic photo, lounge under the shade of the tree, and spot birds & bees buzzing by while crossing the iconic green bridge. Walk, breathe, and bloom.
The Famous Bob Jones Trail
Find the entrance through The Secret Garden and take it to the sea! Known as the “City to the Sea” trail, this trail is voted one of the best in San Luis Obispo.
- Length: About 3 miles one way (6 miles round trip).
- Accessibility: Mostly flat, paved surface that’s stroller and wheelchair friendly. Great for walking, jogging, biking, or rollerblading. Dogs on leash are welcome.
- Ending Reward: The trail pops you out right at Downtown Avila Beach promenade, where you can grab coffee, ice cream, or just enjoy the ocean view.
- Fun fact! The trail is named after Bob Jones, a local environmentalist and advocate for outdoor recreation who worked to preserve and expand public access to the coast.
- Rent bikes at the Sycamore Shop and take a fun ride to the beach! No reservations required.
The Crest Trail with Ocean Views at the Peak
The beloved Sycamore Crest Trail takes you through beautiful manzanita and oak trees. Find the entrance passing through The Yoga Dome and take it to spectacular surprises!
- Length: About 1.7 miles round trip with gravel trails.
- Accessibility: Challenging uphill hike with a steady and steep incline. Sycamore parking is for resort guests only.
- Ending Reward: Find the hidden rope swing and see breathtaking panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean! Take an evening hike for stunning sunsets but bring flashlight for the descent.
- Bonus Trail: The Sycamore Crest Trail leads to the Ontario Ridge Trail for even more views and adventure.
